Syngenta Provence Investment Strengthens European Vegetables Seed Production

Syngenta Vegetable Seeds is moving ahead with a major investment at its Sarrians production site in France, reinforcing the company’s strategic footprint in Europe. The project will expand the research and development (R&D) location to also be the European hub for hybrid tomato and pepper seed production, bringing research, production and supply (P&S) activities together on one site.

The development will expand greenhouse capacity, upgrade infrastructure and introduce new P&S activities. By establishing production within the European Union, Syngenta aims to shorten time to market and strengthen its ability to serve European customers. The integrated “home farm” model is designed to support solanaceae seeds for protected markets, including tomato and sweet pepper, while creating closer links between innovation and production.

“The goal is to create a home farm for Europe for solanaceae seeds, including protected markets, tomato, and sweet peppers, and accelerate speed to market,” said Bruno Foncelle, Global Vegetable Seeds Production and Supply Development Lead, Syngenta. “It’s not a new site, but we’re investing so we can bring innovation to customers faster.”

R&D expertise and planned P&S capabilities will create synergies. “We have the highest hygiene standards from R&D to P&S,” Foncelle added, pointing to the standards that will connect development and production at Sarrians.

The phased transformation is planned to run from 2026 through 2030. It reflects Syngenta’s confidence in the site’s contribution to its seed business and in its role supporting European customers. As work progresses, the company will share updates. The investment helps support European seed innovation.
